The basics

What is Sealby?

Sealby is a private, local-first encrypted vault for iPhone and iPad. It stores photos, videos, documents and rich-text notes behind a PIN, pattern or passphrase, encrypted on your device with AES-256 — with no account, no servers, and deniable hidden vaults no one can prove exist.

Which devices does Sealby support?

Sealby runs on iPhone and iPad — iOS and iPadOS 17 or later. Premium adds encrypted iCloud backup and sync across your devices.

Does Sealby work on iPad?

Yes — Sealby runs natively on iPad, with the same deniable vaults and on-device AES-256 encryption. With Premium, vaults sync between your iPhone and iPad through iCloud as an unreadable encrypted blob, so every device stays sealed.

Can I unlock with a pattern?

Yes. Each vault opens with whatever you set for it — a PIN, a pattern, or a passphrase — and deniability works the same with all three: any input opens its own vault. For the strongest protection, a long passphrase is still the best key.

Do I need an account or sign-up?

No. Sealby has no accounts at all — nothing to register, verify, or be breached. You create a vault, choose a PIN, and you’re done.

How do I get my data out of Sealby?

Open a vault and export whenever you like — including encrypted export for moving or archiving material. Your data is never held hostage; it just stays sealed until you decide otherwise.

Security & privacy

Can Sealby or Apple read my data?

No. Your data is encrypted on your device and only an unreadable blob is stored or synced. There is no account, no server-held key, and no backdoor — so there is nothing readable for anyone to access or be compelled to hand over.

What encryption does Sealby use?

Files and notes are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using per-file keys, which are protected by your device’s Secure Enclave and unlocked by your PIN, pattern or passphrase.

What if I lose my recovery phrase?

Because there is no master key or backdoor, a vault with no other access path cannot be recovered. That is the trade-off that makes Sealby unreadable to everyone but you, so store your recovery phrase carefully.

Do you track me on this website?

No. This site uses no trackers or advertising pixels and sets no cookies. Privacy is the product, so the website is built to match.

Hidden vaults & deniability

What is a deniable (hidden) vault?

A separate vault that opens only with its own PIN. Because vaults are indistinguishable from random data and there is no stored list of them, no one can prove how many vaults you have — or that a hidden one exists at all.

Can someone tell how many vaults I have?

No. Sealby keeps no global registry or index of vaults, and unrevealed vaults are indistinguishable from unused random data. The vault count is forensically undetectable.

What is a duress PIN?

An optional passcode that, when entered, silently and irreversibly wipes your hidden vaults — so a forced unlock destroys what matters instead of revealing it. You choose whether to set one.
