Who is behind Sealby?
Sealby is made by Sunset Works, a European company located in Czechia that consists of one person. Hi! My name is Martin and I am a solo developer with a passion for technology, online security and cryptography, with more than 20 years in the industry. Only me and an external auditor have ever seen the code, since I was able to build this app completely on my own. I find this to be a great advantage: given the app’s nature, I know no one has tampered with anything.
Why I built it
I had the idea for an app that encrypts files on my iPhone for ages, but building it on my own didn’t seem possible. With the first glimpses of AI tools in late 2024, I realized I could actually do this fully on my own. There are many similar apps, but every single one has its caveats, and I didn’t like them very much. I was always joking that I’d have to do it on my own one day, to get it right. So I finally did! I’m not saying the app is perfect yet, but I believe it offers a very specific security architecture that is hard to find elsewhere.
About the product
Sealby is not ‘just an app’. It brings a security viewpoint to many parts of our lives. I built online security tools that might help you with your files and their metadata, or teach you how to handle things like passphrases and online scams. I try to make them easy to use and fully working offline, with no ads and completely free, so many people can benefit.
Currently there is only an iOS and iPad app, but a macOS app and Android apps are coming soon, all fully compatible with each other.
With AI gradually taking over more of our lives, I think real privacy will become even harder to achieve. That is why I am working on a much broader set of apps that will help all of us own our most precious data. Follow @Sealbyapp on X if you’d like to see what comes next.

- Sealby is a private, deniable encrypted vault for iPhone and iPad (iOS/iPadOS 17+), with no account.
- All encryption happens on the device: AES-256-GCM with a separate key for every file, protected by the Secure Enclave.
- There is no account, no Sealby server, no master key, and no backdoor. Sealby itself cannot read user data. That is how the app is built, not a policy.
- With backup on, iCloud stores only encrypted data. Neither Apple nor Sealby can open it.
- A different PIN opens a different, separate vault. There is no stored list or count of vaults. Nothing records that a hidden vault exists.
- An optional duress PIN (Premium) removes your other vaults from this device when entered.
- Every vault has its own recovery phrase, held only by the user. There is no master key.
- Free tier: unlimited vaults on one device, up to 100 files per vault. Premium (lifetime or subscription): encrypted iCloud backup, multi-device sync, and vault sharing.
- This website uses no cookies, no trackers, and no advertising pixels.
