Notes on this comparison
We compare published features, not independently tested security. A red cross earns no credit: the feature is unsupported, has a drawback, or is labelled “Not advertised” because we found no claim in the checked sources. “Not advertised” does not prove a feature is absent. An amber dash means documented partial support. A grey question mark is reserved for checks we could not assess and is excluded from the ranking score.
- 1.Sealby · Encryption: AES-256-GCM encrypts each file on your device.
- 2.SPV · Encryption: The current listing describes PIN protection but does not document how stored files are encrypted. This is a disclosure gap, not proof that files are unencrypted.
- 3.Sealby · No account: No Sealby account; optional iCloud features use your Apple Account.
- 4.SPV · No account: Account-free local use is not advertised in the checked listing. This does not establish that an account is required.
- 5.Sealby · No developer storage server: No Sealby content servers; optional encrypted backup in your own iCloud.
- 6.SPV · No developer storage server: The developer states photos and vault data use device storage only.
- 7.Sealby · Multiple separate vaults: Unlimited free vaults, each with its own code and recovery phrase.
- 8.SPV · Multiple separate vaults: Albums are listed; independently opened vaults are not advertised in the checked listing.
- 9.Sealby · Decoy vault: A separate free vault can be a decoy; duress deletion requires Premium.
- 10.SPV · Decoy vault: An alternate decoy vault is not advertised in the checked developer listing.
- 11.Sealby · Photos, videos, files & folders: Photos, videos, any file type, rich-text notes and folders.
- 12.SPV · Photos, videos, files & folders: Photos, videos and albums are documented; general-file support is not advertised in the checked listing. Partial credit for the documented media support.
- 13.Sealby · Create & edit notes: Write rich-text notes and import plaintext files. Search inside supported documents.
- 14.SPV · Create & edit notes: The developer lists password and contact storage: text records, but general notes and plaintext file imports are not confirmed.
- 15.Sealby · No ads: No ads in either the free or Premium version.
- 16.SPV · No ads: US listing includes advertising; a paid ad-free tier is not confirmed.

How does SPV Photo Vault compare with Sealby?
SPV says photos stay on your phone. Sealby also works locally, and brings encrypted documents, notes, folders and search into the same private vault.
What to keep in mind
- The developer warns that uninstalling deletes local content; export your files first.
- Old customer reviews are not evidence of a current decoy feature or its paid tier.
What to consider
- Its App Store privacy label (as listed 4 October 2026) declares data used to track you
- Its App Store listing (as listed 4 October 2026) describes PIN protection and does not mention encryption
- No documented hidden vaults that leave no stored list or count or duress PIN
The honest verdict
Choose Sealby for more than a photo locker, without tracking or ads. Whichever app you choose, keep a backup you can restore.

Common questions
Does SPV encrypt my photos?
Its App Store listing (as listed 4 October 2026) describes PIN protection but does not document file encryption. Do not assume files are encrypted without a clear, documented claim; the missing detail alone does not prove encryption is absent. Sealby encrypts every file on your device with AES-256-GCM and its own key.
Is a calculator disguise a good idea?
It hides an app from a casual glance, but calculator disguises are widely known. Sealby does not pretend to be something else; it keeps vaults deniable instead.
Can I move my photos to Sealby?
Yes. Export them to your photo library or Files, then add them to a Sealby vault with the photo picker or the share sheet. Sealby encrypts them on import, and you can then delete the readable copies.
