Encrypted export · Free
A backup you can hold in your hand.
Export an encrypted copy of a vault and keep it wherever you like: Files, a USB drive, another cloud, a disk in a drawer. It stays unreadable wherever it ends up, and it restores on any iPhone with the vault’s recovery phrase.
Free on every tier
How do I back up a private vault without iCloud?
Use an encrypted export. In Sealby, open the vault, choose Export backup and enter its 12-word recovery phrase. Sealby writes a .sealbackup file sealed with that phrase. Store it anywhere; to restore, choose the file on any iPhone and enter the same phrase.

Store the file elsewhere
Save the .sealbackup file to Files, a USB drive or another provider. One copy on the same phone does not protect against losing the phone.

Restore when you need it
On a new or reset iPhone, choose the file and enter the same twelve words. The file brings the data; the phrase brings the key.
Move to a new iPhone without Premium
Export each vault on the old phone, restore on the new one, done. No sync service, no account, no transfer cable required.
Store the file elsewhere
Save the .sealbackup file to Files, a USB drive or another provider. One copy on the same phone does not protect against losing the phone. The file is useless without the phrase, and the phrase has nothing to open without the file. Keep them in different places. An export is a snapshot: anything you add later is not in it until you export again.
Two halves, kept apart

Common questions
Is the export encrypted?
Yes. The .sealbackup file is sealed with a key derived from the vault’s recovery phrase. Without the phrase it is unreadable.
Is it the same as iCloud backup?
No. Export is a manual file you control, and it is free. Encrypted iCloud backup (Premium) runs automatically and adds sync between devices.
Does Sealby leave a readable copy behind while exporting?
No. The encrypted file is staged briefly and removed when the share sheet closes, and swept again on every lock and launch.
