Vault sharing · Premium

Share a copy. Keep your vault.

Sealby shares an encrypted snapshot of a vault as a file, with its own 12-word share phrase that travels separately. The recipient keeps an independent copy in a vault of their own. Your vault, its key and its recovery phrase are never exposed.

How can I share private photos securely without a cloud link?

Encrypt them into a file and send the key by a different route. Sealby packs the content into an encrypted .sealshare file and creates a fresh 12-word share phrase. Send the file one way and the phrase another; the recipient needs both, and nothing sits on a server waiting to leak.

At a glance

  • An encrypted .sealshare file plus a separate 12-word phrase
  • The recipient gets an independent copy, not access to your vault
  • Your vault and recovery phrase are never exposed
  • Optional expiry, open-count and no-export limits (best-effort)

Send it in two halves.

  1. 1

    Choose Share vault

Pick what to share and set optional limits: an expiry date, a maximum number of opens, or no export.

  2. 2

Get the file and the phrase

Sealby creates the .sealshare file and a fresh 12-word share phrase, shown once. It is different from your recovery phrase.

  3. 3

    Send them separately

The file over AirDrop, Messages or Files; the phrase by another channel. Sending both together defeats the point.

  4. 4

    The recipient imports it

In Sealby they choose Import a shared vault, pick the file and enter the phrase. Importing into a fresh, empty vault keeps the shared content apart from everything else.

A copy, not a key to your vault

Sharing takes a snapshot. The recipient’s copy lives in their own vault, with its own unlock and its own recovery phrase. They cannot reach your live vault or anything you add later, and your vault’s deniability is unaffected.

Limits travel inside the encryption

Expiry, open-count and no-export are sealed into the share, so nobody can quietly change them in transit. They are enforced by the recipient’s app, which is why we call them best-effort.

The honest limit

Once someone can open a share, the content is theirs: they can screenshot it or copy it, and a share that has been sent cannot be revoked. Share only with people you would trust with a plain copy.

Common questions

Does the recipient need Premium?

Yes, today both creating and importing a share are part of Premium.

Can I revoke a share?

No. Once the file and phrase are out, the copy is independent. Expiry and open-count are best-effort limits applied by the recipient’s app.

Does the recipient see my recovery phrase?

Never. The share has its own phrase, and the recipient’s vault has its own recovery phrase.

Your vault is waiting.
